Overseas Community Affairs Council Commissioner Hsiu-Hsia Yu Donates NT$1Million to Support International Education at International College

(Reported by Chen-Wen Chiu / Shilin Campus) Following her visit to Ming Chuan University on January 5 earlier this year, Ms. Hsiu-Hsia Yu, an Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Commissioner based in Osaka, Japan, returned to the Shilin Campus on the morning of April 24. Accompanied by University Advisor Dr. Hsin-Hsing Wu, she met with President Chuan Lee and donated NT$1 million to support the enhancement of professional classroom facilities and the development of teaching resources at the International College.

President Chuan Lee and President Hsuan-Shih Lee personally received Commissioner Yu. The meeting was attended by Vice President for International Affairs and Industry-Academia Collaboration Lan-Yu Lee, University Advisor Hsin-Hsing Wu, Dean of the International College Hsuan-Hsuan Chang, Assistant Chiu-Hsiang Liao, and Secretary Chen-Wen Chiu. The atmosphere was both warm and ceremonious. Notably, although Commissioner Yu is not an alumna of Ming Chuan University, she has shown strong support for the development of the International College and international education, and is regarded by the University as a valued “Friend of Ming Chuan.”

Having lived in Japan for over 30 years, Commissioner Yu has long been actively engaged in overseas community service and holds significant influence within the Taiwanese community in Osaka. She noted that Taiwan and Japan share close ties, and that her previous visit to the International College left a deep impression on her. She expressed particular concern for Japanese students and the second generation of Taiwanese business families in Asia pursuing education in Taiwan. She also highlighted that Ming Chuan University is a pioneer in internationalized education in Taiwan with a strong reputation. She hopes that, through Ming Chuan’s global education network—including its U.S. campus, Mandarin Learning Center, and semiconductor programs—more students from Japan and Taiwanese business families in Asia will be encouraged to pursue higher education in Taiwan or participate in overseas exchange opportunities.

President Chuan Lee expressed sincere appreciation for Commissioner Yu’s generosity, noting that her donation reflects genuine care for higher education in Taiwan and brings a meaningful source of encouragement to the University. He emphasized that Ming Chuan University is a “global university without borders,” with a campus in the United States and partnerships with over 500 sister institutions worldwide. Looking ahead, the University will work closely with Commissioner Yu to support the development plans of the Asian Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce, strengthening academic exchange and industry collaboration to meet the needs of Taiwanese businesses in Asia, and jointly cultivate globally competitive talent among the next generation.

During the visit, the University presented a certificate of appreciation and a commemorative gift to Commissioner Yu in recognition of her contribution. Vice President Lan-Yu Lee also noted that the donation will be immediately used to upgrade the professional classrooms at the International College, providing students with an improved learning environment and enhanced resources. The University also looks forward to inviting Commissioner Yu back in the future to engage in face-to-face exchanges with more than 60 Japanese students on campus and to share her entrepreneurial journey and life experience.
