MCU ITM Students Receive Honorable Mention at ICIM 2026 Y.S. AI Digital Technology Paper Award

The Information Technology and Management Program (ITM) at the International College of Ming Chuan University has once again achieved outstanding results. Senior student Yan-Wei Lee, under the supervision of Associate Professor David Lee, participated in the “ICIM 2026: The 37th International Conference on Information Management and Y.S. AI Digital Technology Paper Award” and received the Honorable Mention Award in the Research Innovation Category, along with a cash prize of NT$10,000. This achievement highlights the program’s excellence in research and practical applications in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and intelligent finance.

The award-winning paper, titled:

“From Black Box to Trustworthy Decision-Making: An Intelligent Credit Risk Management and Recourse System Based on Domain Knowledge-Constrained XAI”

focuses on credit risk assessment issues commonly encountered in the FinTech industry. Addressing the lack of transparency and interpretability in traditional AI models, the study proposes an intelligent credit risk management and decision-support system that integrates Explainable AI (XAI) with Domain Knowledge Constraints. The research incorporates technologies such as XGBoost, TreeSHAP, and Counterfactual Explanation, while establishing a structurally constrained decision-making model to enhance the reliability, fairness, and practical applicability of AI-driven decisions.

The research findings demonstrate that the proposed system not only improves the accuracy of credit risk prediction, but also provides interpretable decision-making insights and actionable recommendations. This enables financial institutions to better balance risk management, regulatory compliance, and user trust within digital finance and AI-driven environments. The paper also covers advanced topics including SHAP interpretability analysis, structured counterfactual generation methods, and AI fairness analysis, showcasing the student’s interdisciplinary capabilities in integrating AI, data science, and financial technology.

The conference was organized by the Chinese Society of Information Management and is recognized as one of Taiwan’s leading academic events in the fields of information management and artificial intelligence. During the conference, Yan-Wei Lee presented the research paper and was awarded a certificate of presentation.

Associate Professor David Lee, Director of the Information Technology and Management Program, stated that the program has long been committed to cultivating interdisciplinary talent equipped with expertise in AI, data analytics, intelligent decision-making, and international communication skills. The program also actively encourages students to participate in academic research and international competitions. He noted that receiving a national academic paper award based on a senior capstone project not only demonstrates the student’s research potential, but also reflects the program’s strong teaching outcomes and talent development in AI and intelligent applications.

In recent years, the Information Technology and Management Program has actively promoted teaching and research in areas such as artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, intelligent finance, data science, and digital transformation. The program emphasizes English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) and practice-oriented training, continuously nurturing internationally competitive IT professionals. This award once again highlights the outstanding performance of ITM students in AI innovation and interdisciplinary research.
